The paper work Untitled (1975) is a masterpiece for discerning collectors with a pronounced historical awareness, a very intellectual taste and a strong focus on the art of representatives of German post-war art. Collectors who particularly value A.R. Penck's artistic engagement with the history of German-German division as well as his artistic avoidance of state repression - which is reflected above all in his works created in the GDR - can supplement their collection with this work with a piece that is as unusual as it is meaningful.
The paper work Untitled (1975) is one of 38 selected works on paper that were shown in 1998 in the exhibition of the Kunstverein Salzgitter, showing works of art created in the GDR that are stylistically beyond the familiar stereotypes of A.R. Penck's artistic work. The exhibited works stand for the vitality and fresh vitality that the artist maintained through the power of the imagination despite all state persecution and prevention.
The work is characterized by an interrelationship between planned and unplanned action and unplannable processes; equally fascinating is the craftsmanship that finds expression in the figures, which slowly emerge from the curved vertical forms.
It is the contrast between abstraction and figure that A.R. Penck tries to fathom, thus encircling a theme that dominates his entire artistic oeuvre.
The work Untitled (1975) was integrated in 1998 into the exhibition Atelierspuren (Studio Traces) organized by the Kunstverein Salzgitter together with the Galerie Michael Schultz in Berlin. Its aim was to present the artistic individuality that A.R. Penck could only live out in his studio in the GDR in a synopsis of a selection of representative ideas on paper.
